Founder of Chris Hani

It was in 1993 when Mr. NV Betana set off from the Eastern Cape to look for work in the Western Cape. On arrival Mr. Betana navigated through the stringent laws of apartheid and built a shack on a vacant land near the town of Tulbagh. He went on and mobilised his family and other people of his distant community to come and settle with him.
The shacks were eventually destroyed and the community was given army tents as temporal accommodation. Later green containers from the municipality were erected until decent houses were built in the new government that was elected in 1994.
The name of the Settlement (Chris Hani) coincides with the year in which Chris Hani was killed in the hands of the aphartheid government.
